WHAT IS IT? A place to come together, improvise, have fun, experiment, meet new people.

WHO CAN COME? If you have some music experience and can play an instrument, you can come. If you are not yet comfortable in a live-improv-environment, maybe it is better to come to one of the workshops first.

RULES:

  1. This is a place for pure improvisation, no cover songs, no pre-rehearsed material. the idea is to communicate at the moment and play music at the moment, what comes up, comes up.
  2. The sessions are mediated. There is a system that provides routing and session prompts. it is created to keep things going, mix things up, break the ice, and go out of your comfort zone.
  3. Each session lasts 15 minutes, starts and ends with silence, and the players commit to going in or out of the session before it starts. If committed, you have to choose the instrument and stay in the session until the end. It is TOTALLY okay not to make any sound if you do not feel the necessity to do so.
  4. Each session is recorded, the recording is made available for everyone.
  5. We play for each other, not for the audience. If there is an audience its important to remember, the goal of this process is not to impress or entertain. It is much better to direct your attention inward.
  6. Listening is important. This is not a talent show nor a competition, there is no pressure to ‘say’ something unless music demands it. Improvisation provides a great environment for learning to listen.
  7. Respect. The goal is to create a supporting space for people with different backgrounds and levels of experience. We are trying to tap into the collective creative field, so everyone can bring something to the table. No one is obliged to do anything, play a certain way or play at all.
  8. Bring your instrument. We are renting some stuff at the rehearsal space, but its better to be sure. Also, we are switching instruments, so it’s better to bring something that you can share with other players.
  9. We're splitting the room rent In case we are meeting at the rehearsal space, we split the bill evenly. Usually in Berlin it is around 10-20EUR, depending on the amount of ppl and rented extra instruments.
